Chrysocolla after Boleite, Boleo, Baja California, Mexico, Page - 1 |
|
Recent mining activity south of the legendary Amelia mine in Mexico, world renowned for its exceptional cumengites
and boleites, has produced very interesting matrix specimens of baby-blue chrysocolla after boleite. These highly
engaging clusters comprise of fairly well defined crystals showing habits of cubes and cuboctahedrons, that have
completely lined shallow vugs in waxy dark tenorite. Each piece gives off noticeably vibrant color as few pseudomorphs
do. Since they are of limited supply and quite rare I am left with the impression that this could be a flash in the pan find
only available for a brief period of time.

Overall Size: 9.5 x 7.7 cm

Excellent large plate showing numerous sharp pseudomorphs sandwiched in the middle layer of dark
tenorite matrix, easily the best in the lot. While boleite pseudos reach up to about 1 cm in length it is the
cluster shown in each close-up photo that is super-rare, for these crystals only measure in at 0.6 cm,
but the group is incredibly elevated for what they are! Must be seen in person, 9.5 x 7.7 cm.

Good crystals of 0.4 cm across sit side by side in the center of matrix, although not as defined these pseudos
represent the mineralogy of the locality. Fascinating stuff at a fair price, 4 x 2.7 cm.
