S10429 - Orpiment after Realgar - SOLD
Palomo Mine, Huancavelica Department, Peru
Overall Size: 6.5 x 4.7 cm
Absolutely terrific pseudomorph! We actually have two generations of growth, the underlying mustard-yellow
orpiment is replacing the realgar prisms and the olive-green balls partially coating the specimen are also
orpiment. There was only one really bizarre looking pseudo (seen here) from the find just last month of less
than half a dozen specimens, two other top pieces are posted below. Unquestionably a mesmerizing rock,
the kind that makes you think. Outside of being strange, it could be considered superb in the pseudomorph
department. Crystals extend to 4.7 cm across.
